After failing to contact air traffic controllers on the ground when crossing into Hungarian airspace yesterday, a British Airways commercial flight was escorted by two fighter jets from the Hungarian Air Force, ordered by the Hungarian Defense Ministry, according to reports.

Fire crews had been called to over 350 scenes – mostly in the capital and its surroundings – until Tuesday morning after an extraordinary storm showering the country with 1.5 months of rain during a period of a couple of hours hit Hungary yesterday evening.

The first Budapest Half Marathon was organised in 1984. During the last 29 years the race grew up into a major event in Budapest with 12 850 runners. 8500 runners on the individual 21 km distance, while others run in pairs or run the shorter distances. Budapest Half Marathon also became a real international event with almost 1600 runners from abroad, from 65 different countries in 2013.

Severe weather conditions including snowstorms and gale-force winds affecting most of Europe have reached Hungary. Minister of Interior Sándor Pintér put the police force and disaster management forces, including ambulance services and on high alert on Thursday afternoon in order to ensure a maximum response to the increasingly serious situation.
